Magical sunsets over the 12 Islands of Fethiye Bay

Magical sunsets over the 12 Islands of Fethiye Bay

It's 7:35pm, the crowds start to gather. There's a sense of expectation on the beach front and a waft of flame grilled meats and barbecue fish in the air as the many beachfront restaurants are teeming with diners.

As you look out to sea, the deep orange glow of the sinking sun begins to dip behind the islands in the bay and the tranquil Mediterranean shimmers like a carpet of gold.

Then without any arrangement a quiet calm descends the beach front. People sit and stand with their loved ones and there's a feeling of harmony and well being amongst the crowd, as nature does her thing.

Then it happens... like a well rehearsed ballet, the sun does this graceful decent and the islands almost appear to rise out of the shimmering sea of gold.

Very often the silence is broken with a gasp from the many hundreds of spectators, then just like all the finest things in life, the moment has come... and then gone.

Many of the spectators still sit and stand in a sort of trance, or stunned amazement, looking at each other as they savour what they have witnessed.

Sunset at Calis Beach on Turkey's south western Mediterranean coast is something that should definitely be experienced, at least once in lifetime.

Situated on a west facing part of this beautiful and rugged coastline near the historic resort town of Fethiye, Calis Beach is a popular holiday resort with a broad, sandy crescent shaped beach.

Like many popular European holiday resorts, the beach front is a throng of restaurants

and bars all jostling for custom in this thriving resort but the sunset ritual seems to steel the attention of diners, tourists and locals alike.

The resort boasts many fine restaurants serving a mouth watering array of freshly caught local fish and seafood.

Flame grilled meats with fresh lamb being a local speciality where the accent is on freshness and a sense of adventure, with spices and herbs that really work together with flavours that almost dance on your tastebuds.

Waterfront dining is In abundance in this area as the huge Fethiye bay is like a large horse shoe shaped natural bay with dramatic mountains ranges at every view point.

Between Calis Beach and Fethiye the areas provincial capital across the bay, the local water taxi service which the ply the gentle waters of Turquoise blue Mediterranean, is a fun and inexpensive way to visit the colourful local Tuesday market.

Trying to recapture all those Turkish flavours that can be enjoyed in the many traditional Turkish restaurants can be explored and tried at the many spice stalls of the market where
colourful, friendly locals from the surrounding villages, gather to entice the flock of tourists.

If you love great food, absolutely stunning scenery, lovely beaches, crystal blue seas and warm friendly local people, then a visit to Calis Beach with its famous sunsets might be the type of holiday resort for your next holiday vacation.

For a a range of great accommodation options in the area, featuring self catering villas, apartments, bed and breakfast and half board hotels check Artemisia Holiday Rentals.

Holidays in the shadow of Mount Babadag near Oludeniz in sunny Turkey

Rising from the glistening blue azure of the Mediterranean, Mount Babadag is an impressive 6,500ft mountain of ample proportion.

With steep wooded slopes of Cypress and Pines, Babadag or "Father Mountain" as it is referred to locally on Turkey's sunny south western Mediterranean coast, forms a beautiful and impressive backdrop to the string of holiday homes and hotels that dot the valley below in pretty Ovacik and Hisaronu.

It is from the summit of Mount Babadag, that countless tourists hurl themselves off the top in the organised tandem paragliding flights that spiral downwards to the impressive beach below at Olu Deniz.

The tandem paragliding flights land right on the beach at Olu Deniz which offers a superb sandy crescent shaped beach with pristine clear blue sea water.

The para gliders create an interesting spectacle for the beach lovers as a constant stream of flights land right on the seafront like a flock of large birds.

The resort of Olu Deniz offers a colourful seafront lined with bars, restaurants and shops and the main street which leads from the seafront offers many more.

The resort of Olu Deniz features mainly hotel accommodation with many fine hotels and resorts being based here.  Prices for accommodation in the beach resort itself are little more expensive than at hotels in nearby Ovacik and Hisaronu, many of which provide free daily shuttle bus transfers to the beach for their guests.

Taking advantage of a stunning location with a fabulous 50m swimming pool in a truly beautiful setting is Royal Park Artemisia Club Hotel.   Situated on a hillside in the pretty resort of Ovacik, Royal Park Artemisia Club Hotel offers stunning views of Mount Babadag and the Hisaronu valley looking down to the sea at Olu Deniz.

This beautiful hotel offers half board holidays which in the early and late season of May, June or September offer a peaceful and relaxing holiday environment.

Featuring a super pool with a poolside bar and dining terraces that make for near perfect views of the dramatic mountain scenery, especially at sunset.

The hotel provides "alfresco" dining with buffet meals and barbecue nights accompanied by evening entertainment with music, dancing and floor shows.

The hotel offers a range 2, 3 and 4 bed, bedrooms that are beautifully appointed and set in a cluster of out buildings. All bedrooms feature private shower and WC and there is a colour TV with satellite, mini bar, hair dryer, air conditioning and a terrace with mountain, pool or distant sea views.

If it is the freedom of a self catering villa or apartment that you are looking for then the nearby Artemisia Residence Villa and Apartment resorts are only 60m from the hotel and guests can use all the hotel facilities (except food and drink) free of charge.

For the perfect villa or apartment rental, Artemisia Holiday Rentals offering a stunning selection of great value rentals, www.artemisia-holidayrentals.co.uk or via your mobile for the dedicated mobile website.

Turkey is raising the bar... it's a numbers thing!

As the UK's No.1 overseas travel destination... Turkey has been raising the bar in terms of popularity and quality.

Recent industry surveys* carried out and publicly available statistics on sites like Wikipedia**, all the point to the fact that the country's draw for tourism is really taking the UK holiday and tourism market, by storm.

Olu Deniz Beach at sunset
CAPTIVATING... NATURAL and DIFFERENT!

Turkey as a tourist destination has been described in many ways from "The Land Light"... a slogan used a few years ago by the official Turkish Ministry for Tourism.

You may have read one of the numerous newspaper articles about holiday adventures and capers contained in many of the broadsheet and tabloid UK newspapers.

Nowadays you can do your own research on the Internet and judge for yourself with a huge information resource from blogs like this, from feature articles and holiday review sites and the like.

So to give you a little further information and guidance about what Turkey has to offer the traveller, we will detail some of the highlights available in the region between the famous beach at Olu Deniz and the colourful marina and market town of Fethiye on Turkey's South Western coast.

Fethiye Bay
What is the typical holiday to Turkey?  The answer is, there is no typical Turkish holiday, because every holiday traveller is different and so are there holiday expectations and requirements.

Turkey has all the ingredients to meet most, if not all the expectations and requirements of the most demanding of modern travellers.

The country offers staggering natural beauty spots with stunning beaches, colourful resorts, plush marinas, bustling harbours and waterfront lifestyle in abundance.   There's a fascinating and interesting historical past which can be seen, touched and experienced in many ways.

Lycian Rock Tombs in Fethiye
There are a range of high energy holiday activities available from water sports like snorkeling, official PADI registered diving schools, fishing trips, water skiing and tandem paragliding off 6,500ft mountains that land on the beach.

For the more traditional organised family excursions there is an array of full and half day trips and excursions to try.  There are boats trips around the 12 Islands of Fethiye Bay.  A great full  or half day trip that cruises and meanders through the blue waters of Fethiye Bay, visiting uninhabited islands where you can swim directly off the boat and enjoy your time sunbathing and relaxing.

Other great trips and excursions include a Jeep Safari and the Mud Baths, Saklikent Gorge where a wild river runs through a ravine at great force and Thlos & The Endless Valley, where there is an ancient Roman Village and Amphitheatre.
Kaya Ghost Village

Kaya Ghost village which was once occupied by the Greeks and today is being slowly restored under careful restrictions to retain the true identity and charm of the village.

Turkey offers many traditional street markets and local craft shops which specialise in leather, and lace and the traditional carpet manufactures offer a insight in an ancient art form that is still thriving today.

All in all, Turkey has so much to offer the traveller.

Great weather, where temperatures can top 40 degrees plus in the high summer months and outstanding value for money.  You can still enjoy a nice lunch with a drinks round from between £22-£30 GBP for a family of 4.

A holiday or vacation to Turkey is a must if you are on a tight budget... and lets face it, that pretty much includes all of us in these pressing times.  So to make your money go further this summer and find out why Turkey is proving so popular... why not book your holiday to Turkey, today.

Some Easter Holiday dates still available but they are limited.  Summer Dates are showing signs of heavy booking patterns... so to get the pick of the best villas and apartments or the best hotel rooms with that special view, make contact soon.

Invasion of a modern kind... Turkey is set to attract record numbers

Turkey's rise to become the "Jewel in The Crown" travel destination for the European travel and tourism market has seen impressive and sustained growth for the past 10 years.

In 2000 - 8 million visitors, in 2010 - 28.6 million visitots... source wikipedia*

There have been many opinions expressed and words written as to how and why this phenomenal growth has taken place,  but if you ask me, I feel there are just a few simple fundamental reasons why.

Take a further look for yourself ...

Olu Deniz Beach on Turkey's sunny Turquoise Coast
Yes... there are lots of contributing factors that have assisted the substantial rise in tourism and visitor numbers to Turkey.

Many of the most popular holiday and vacation destinations on Turkey's beautiful Aegean, Mediterranean and Black Sea coastline resorts have experienced a huge increase in visitors but this is also reflected to the countries interior and key cities.

Opinions have been stated that it is due to the fact that Turkey is a non Euro zone area, where many of the traditional holiday destinations have suffered in recent years due to the exchange rates and economic climate, making them by comparison, far more expensive than Turkey.

The fact is, it is due to all these points that Turkey has has taken up the mantle as the top tourism spot.   The country has a natural scenic beauty with stunning beaches, clean, clear blue seas a  unique and unusual culture and a warm and welcoming local population.

Pretty Karagozler Bay, Fethiye
One region really experiencing the rise in visitor numbers is the area between Fethiye and Olu Deniz.  This traditional holiday and vacation region offers all the ingredients that go to make for happy holiday experiences.

With some of the most stunning scenery to be found anywhere in Turkey or the Mediterranean for that matter, this region has dramatic mountain backdrops, wonderful stretches of golden sand beaches, colourful marinas and natural rocky bays.

In comparison to many of the Euro land holiday destinations, the cost of day to day holiday essentials are very much cheaper, with a typical lunch on the seafront for a family of 2 adults and 2 children with a drinks round, typically costing between £25-£40 GBP.

12 Islands of Fethiye Bay Boat Tour
A full boat trip of the 12 Islands of Fethiye Bay costs from around £8.00 per person including lunch on board.  You can hire a car from around £22-£30 per day including air conditioning and collision damage waiver insurance.

Turkey represents excellent value for money especially if considering the self catering option by renting a villa or an apartment from Artemisia Holiday Rentals.  Prices start from as little £203 for a 7 night stay in April on an accommodation only basis, for up to 4 persons.

With an abundance of supermarkets and local mini markets in many of the key holiday resorts like Olu Deniz, Ovacik, Husaronu and Calis Beach and fresh a vegetable and fish market in Fethiye, you will find the prices for food and provisions very good.

At today's currency rates provided by XE Currency iPhone App. @ £1.00 GBP = 2.7918 TRY Lira and 1.1876 Euros.

Artemisia Property Sales and Rentals: Taking the stress out of an arrival at Dalaman Int...: "Arriving at any airport can be stressful to say the least! You are not sure where you are, where to go or what the procedures ..."

Taking the stress out of an arrival at Dalaman International Airport in Turkey

Arriving at any airport can be stressful to say the least!

You are not sure where you are, where to go or what the procedures are.  You are in a foreign country and don't always understand the language.

Wrestling through passport control, baggage reclaim and sometimes visa authorities... it is all a bit bewildering.

OK tough enough, but what about the fact that unless you are on one of those package breaks with a tour operator... where you fight with about 50 other people to get a seat on the bus, then an hour or two drive to the resort, only to find that you drop off at the every hotel in the resort... before yours.  It's all a little too much!

Things can be done differently. Why not plan your arrival with a private taxi chauffeur, so that when you have negotiated all the airport formalities and collected your luggage, you can just locate your driver with a quick text notification and head straight off directly to your accommodation.

If you are flying to Dalaman International and staying in or near Fethiye at anytime, just remember Dalaman Fethiye Transfers.

Dalaman Fethiye Transfers provide fast, efficient and reliable airport transfers from Dalaman International to all the popular holiday and business centres near Fethiye.  So if you have a holiday planned in Olu Deniz, Calis Beach, Ovacik or Hisaronu.  If you have a business meeting, short break or holiday stay in Fethiye or Uzumlu... think Dalaman Fethiye Transfers.

With a range of vehicles to accommodate any size of party from 1-20, local experienced, registered drivers... Dalaman Fethiye Transfers can smooth your arrival and departure journey into an experience of calm and assurance.

With a registered reservation office in the UK you can deal with and all the backup facilities on the ground in Turkey, if it's a airport transfer from Dalaman International Airport you are after, then DFT is the number or website to keep.

Putting the Turkish back in to Turkish Delight...ful Holidays

Turkey is a very a beautiful country to visit with a unique culture and charm.  Part of it's charm is its retained links to an historical past, with chapters in history of great armies, conquests and empires.

Lycian Rock Tombs in Fethiye - Turkey

Yes indeed, the past is still there to be seen...  touched and enjoyed... however the real charm and pull that Turkey exudes on all visitors is captured in the warmth and genuine welcome of its people.

When dining out in Turkey, do not be surprised or offended if the waiter turns up at your table with a pre dinner drink, or an extra side dish, flat bread or display of fruit that you did not order.  This is usually complimentary and is a customary welcome gesture.   You will find this type of welcome not only in the restaurants but also on market stalls and even in the shops, particularly jewellers, where you can also experience generous little offerings of iced or Turkish tea, or a sample of their goods such as Turkish Delight or sweets.

Obviously what is offered as a friendly welcome gesture does seem to encourage the visitor to be a little more liberal with their buying or spending habits, so you could argue... it is a good policy in cultural or diplomatic persuasion.

The Turkish people in the main are colourful, mostly genuine and helpful and will move heaven and earth to accommodate you.  At the markets, shops and street stalls you will be encouraged to browse their offerings.  Don't be shy, live a little "Turkish style" and take a look at what is being offered.

Bartering is part and parcel of the buying process, it is catered for and almost expected.  This can add to the overall fun of shopping in Turkey.  You should as a rule know what you are willing to pay for an item, stick to that amount and not waiver unless the price is still within your overall accepted level.  If a price is offered to you, my general rule of thumb is suggest a figure of between 15-25% off the price quoted, if the original figure was within your expectation.  If you feel this is too much or too little to ask for... do as the Turks do... negotiate but be fair and friendly and then you will experience the true warmth of these friendly people.

Turkey a land of outstanding beauty...

Time to reflect on another Great Day of our Holiday in Turkey

Wow what a day we had... Olu Deniz beach was fantastic and the late afternoon visit to "The Blue Lagoon"... well that was the icing on the cake!

Olu Deniz on Turkey's sunny Mediterranean Coast

On our holiday last year to Turkey we visited the beautiful region of Fethiye.  Situated on Turkey's South Western Mediterranean coast, the area between Fethiye and Olu Deniz is a particularly beautiful part of the country.

Fethiye is the provincial market town with its colourful harbour and waterfront promenade and it's glitzy yacht marina and Olu Deniz is the famed beach resort a few miles away.

Olu Deniz is one of the most photographed beach areas in Europe as it offers a truly stunning panorama with it's wide sweeping sandy bay giving way to an impressive mountain range that drops like a stone in to the clear Turquoise of the Mediterranean.

The beach at Olu Deniz is a mixture of fine sand and in parts with some shingle and rocky out parts.  You will find the sea quality is perfect, with a gentle current, clear blue water and a pleasant temperature.

This is a large expanse of beach, so finding a spot was not a problem and as is customary throughout the world, there are sunbeds and parasols for hire at a sensible price and for those who object to paying for a sunbed, you can do as many did... spread out your towel for free.

Behind the beach at Olu Deniz there is a lively resort with many restaurants, shops, bars and cafe`s.  The beach front restaurants serve an excellent beach snack type lunch but are a little more expensive than those set back off the beach front.

There are amenities like toilets and baby changing facilities... but go prepared would be my suggestion.  On a lighter note there are water sports facilities for the action and thrill seekers and for the real adrenalin junkies there is a tandem paragliding service which takes you to the summit of Mount Babadag, which over shadows the beach and from a heady 6,500 feet where you can be hurled off the top to descend with awesome views... I am told and then circling your way down to land on the beach itself.  You can sit and watch the para gliders circling and descending all day, it is fascinating to watch as they look like small birds when high up and aeroplanes when they land.

So after a spot of lunch and an afternoon of reading, sunbathing and watching the para gliders we headed along the beach a few hundred metres to the famous "Blue Lagoon".  I had read much about this area it looked beautiful in the pictures I had seen... so we decided to take a look and explore.

The lagoon is a natural inlet of the sea which has to navigate its way through a curled passage around a peninsular of land.  This peninsular of land almost cuts off the lagoon from the sea.  There is no tide so to speak but the steady flow of sea water offers the lagoon a fresh supply of water that has two properties, a lovely temperature and quite a bit of salt.   You can almost float in the lagoon and the water is like a bath temperature.  The lagoon is naturally beautiful but it is fast becoming so popular that we found the best time to visit was early morning or late afternoon when there were not so many of the visitor's.  At these times the visibility of the water improves and can be clear and blue.

The Blue Lagoon at Olu Deniz

The Blue Lagoon is a nature reserve and there is a small cost to enter this protected environment.  For our family it was well worth the cost to experience this.  The beach areas in the lagoon are the fringe of the peninsular that protects the lagoon from the sea and the around the waters edge of the lagoon itself.

With a full day spent at Olu Deniz and "The Blue Lagoon" we felt the urge to stay in the resort until sunset and with a ride up the high coast road that then looks back at the beach and here is the result.

Sunset at Olu Deniz

Early evening at Olu Deniz in Turkey can be strikingly beautiful... and must look absolutely incredible from one of the paragaliders as seen in this picture.

We stayed in a very nice villa in nearby Ovacik.   A pretty hillside resort which also sits in the shadow of Mount Babadag or "Father Mountain" as it is known.

Artemisia Residence Villas has two very pool areas, with a 25m pristine pool on each development, with lovely gardens and fabulous views over the Hisaronu valley down towards Olu Deniz.

We hope you can also enjoy your day at Olu Deniz and holiday in Turkey.
